From the East… Brethren:
Please welcome on board our new Secretary, Wor. Charles P. Morton; He and Roy have been working hard for a smooth transition after 38 years of devoted service to the Lodge by the man, who to me will always be Wor. Bro. Secretary Roy.
My thanks go to the many brothers who helped with the all projects since June – Bro. Vernon Porter for the Sunset Cruise, Bro. Charles Fields for the photography that day, Wor. Rex McKinsey and Bro. John Lundborn for the two Full Moon fundraisers, and Bro. Peter Denault for his continued financial support of the Lodge’s charities.
In September, we will open on the First Degree, the exemplification degree for this year, and then change to the Third Degree after the Business Meeting, This year the Business Meeting will follow a more traditional Masonic format. Now that we have a newly roofed, freshly power washed and repainted lodge building, we will be coming inside and working our way from the first floor foyer to the upper outer apartment. We will be presenting a slightly more austere budget as we rebuild reserves in anticipation of redoing the kitchen and dinner room (NOT this year!) in time for our 2100th Regular Communication—May 2011, only 33 months away! We are looking for brothers to work with a reorganized Building Association, we hope to have in place as soon as possible. After the Business Meeting we will change up to the Third Degree to revive an old Masonic tradition of exemplification of the Third Degree by Bro. Jim Lyman, plus an number of memorials and presentations.
We need volunteers for a number of one day events. Coming up we have Square and Compasses Day, hopefully a MyChip event, Wor. John Barros’ Memorial, the Holiday Party, as well as help with the meals. This fall we will be doing all our own meals with the exception of Oct. Can YOU help with the planning, shopping, preparation, cooking and/or serving, please?
October will be our last Official Visit by our all-to-soon outgoing DDGM, RW Jim Gilrein. It promises to be a great, albeit long, night. (Officers please see the calendar for other Official Visits dates, also the Lodge of Instruction on the 24th)
Our condolences to R. E. Bill Reade on the recent loss of both his sister and brother. R E. Bill is a good friend of King Hiram’s and we look forward to seeing him and the rest of Sylvester Baxter Royal Arch Chapter here in January and February. We are please to hear that Bro. Steve Garran’s son Nathan is recovering from his recent surgery.
Just in!!!! Check out the centerfold of the current

From the South East:
Brethren:
I am please to write to you for the first time from the Secretary’s desk. It is that time of year again so please watch for your 2008-2009 dues notice, if it isn’t already there. Let’s have a 100% year!
My thanks to Wor. LeRoy Atkins for all his help during this transition year. It isn’t easy to follow 38 years of expert service and knowledge when coupled with a change to the new Grand Lodge web-based MORI system. So please, bear with me.
The Summer Newsletter had a request for updated member information and we have received a number of them back. We are particularly looking for updated email addresses. You may response online, if you wish to cpmorton2@earthlink.net. We would love to hear news from our out of town (and local!) brothers—job, family, health. Drop us an email or a postcard..
Please mark your calendars! Grand Lodge Quarterly is Wed. Sep 10th. Let us know if you will be joining the Master and Wardens. Wor. John A. Barros’ Memorial will be at the Lodge Hall, Sat Sept 27th at 10:30 AM, service at 11:00AM. Sat Oct 18th will be Square and Compasses Day. This year all lodges in New England (not just Massachusetts) are scheduled to be open. Come by and see us, or better, volunteer to help out. Anchor & Ark meets on the third Tuesdays, this month we will be at Bayside Betsy’s. Members, spouses, friends, potential candidates are all welcome.
Congratulations to Bro. SW John Lundborn and his new wife Oana, who were married in Romania this July. Many happy years!
Please keep former KHL Warden Wor. Bob Dalpe in your thoughts and prayers, as well as Bro. Steve Garran’s son Nathan who is mending for recent surgery. Best wishes for good health also go out to Bro. Clifford Banks, father of Bro. Greg Banks, JS and to Wor. Clifford E. Brautigam and family in CT. Good luck with your eyes go to Grace Atkins, wife of Wor. Roy, who just had a visit from their son, our Brother Philip Atkins. We were pleased to see both Wor. Chic Pollock and Wor. Jim Theriault here in Provincetown for Carnival.
Lets us know how you’re doing!
Fraternally,
Charles P.

rom the East…Brethren:
Let Brotherly Love prevail..
We welcome our three newest Master Masons, Bro. ERIK W. HANSEN, Bro. AUSTIN P. KNIGHT, Bro. MICHAEL E. PRATT and newest affiliates Wor. VARTKES A. PERPERIAN, and Wor. HERBERT G. BELL II. It was a truly great Third Degree with lots of help for our members and other Masons from the 20th & 21st Districts. Thanks go especially to R.E. Bill Reade, Wor. Ed Rooney, and Wor. Paul Sweetser, who, although not brothers of KHL, might as well be! Thanks also to all our officers and members who participated. It was wonderful to have RW Jim Gilrein and Wor. Chronis G. Kalivas take part. The “emblems lecture” was delivered by a chorus of brothers in memory of R. W. John Patrick on his 50th Anniversary
As I write this, we are preparing to entertain our other brothers, the Knights of Columbus. Watch for pictures next month.
January was busy; February was busy; Why shouldn’t March be busy!
Just for fun, let’s look at some of the requirements for the Grand Master’s award and how we did this month:
Membership - 3 new masons, 2 new affiliates, 5 new applications passed out.
Masonic Awareness - 30 people toured the lodge on Mar 8th—Square and Compasses Day
and we had a table at Yearrounders Festival.
Intervisititations - Myself, Bro. Des and Wor. Charlie did officer’s work at Mt Horeb’s
3rd Degree; Des sat in as JD at Universal—a Fraternal visit
Visits of the DD - We had 8 brothers at RW Dave Kramer 5th District DDGM’s Fraternal
and 8 brothers at RW Dave Nailor 20th District DDGM’s visit to Martha’s Vineyard, and 8 brothers at RW Jim Gilrein’s Fraternal to
Nauset for Bro. Bob Wood’s Table Lodge—Congratulations Chaplain Extraordinaire! Brothers also attended all of RW Jim’s other Fraternals.
Attendance at Grand Lodge Quarterly (Mar 12th) - 8 brothers (this is not always the same 8 by the way!).
Attendance at Lodge of Instruction - 7 brothers—Bro. Des was one of the instructors.
Pilgrimage to the Masonic Home
Bro. Des attended Rose of Sharon Lodge at Overlook and worked on the Grand Master’s Fair plans (Sun. June 8th—mark your Calendar!)
Family Social Function- 15 people at Anchor & Ark at Montano’s! -
Program to avoid suspensions and demits - Reminders went out to those delinquent. Please get your 2007-2008 dues in if you haven't already.
Support of Collateral Bodies - Bro. Randy Chow, Wor. Randy Gifford, Wor. Herb Kinney, myself and Bro. Des took officer’s roles at Sylvester Baxter Royal Arch. Bro. Bob Wood and Bro. Des did work at Scottish Rite in Wareham
Service Committee - Bro. Ross & RW Southard have assisted Bro. Vernon Porter to and from the hospital - get well Buddy! You to Wor. John Barros!
Other categories—Feast of St John’s—did that—9 brothers!; Lodge of Qualification—coming up; Lodge of Exemplification—coming up May 2nd; Masonic Building Improvement—watch for a new roof soon!
And this is one month! Come join us! It’s fun—really!
Frats!
Rex Let Brotherly Love prevail..
PS Thanks to Bro. Lundborn Limo!
From Southeast:
Greetings and salutations to all of my friends and Brothers at King Hiram's Lodge. May I say that I look forward to those many smiles and handshakes at the next lodge meeting on April 14th. Wheelchair bound or not, I am anxiously awaiting taking my usual spot behind the secretary's desk.
Glad to note that my dues reminder has galvanized some of you into action by sending in your dues. However, at this writing some 19 remain unpaid. King Hiram's is your Lodge so please support it by sending in your dues payment right away!
Congratulations go to Wor. Hughson Hawley, this month celebrating 63 years as a Master Mason. Hughson is a good man, a good friend, and most of all, a good Mason. Congratulations also go to Bro. Max Berman for his 59 years as a Mason, and Bro. Bob Livingston for 57 years and Bro. Chester Maynard for 53 years.
And so much to look forward to in the months to come. King Hiram's Lodge a Fellowcraft Degree in April and a Master Mason Degree in May. Also remember the Masters Path on April 5th in Wakefield, The Lodge of Exemplification on Friday, May 2nd at Mount Horeb Lodge, the observance of the 275th anniversary of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts, May 2nd through 5th, the Grand Masters Fair at the Masonic Home in Charlton on Sunday, June 8th, the Blessing of the Fleet Parade on June 28th, and the Masonic Angel Fund Cruise in June (TBA). Of course ,a final thing to remember is the monthly meetings of the 21st Lodge of Instruction on April 23rd and May 28th, as well as our own Anchor and Ark on April 15th and again on May 20th.
Plenty to do so all of you couch potatoes get up and get busy and get out! If you need a ride, call someone, if you can give a ride, call someone!
Our ever hard working Chaplain Bob Wood got himself roasted at the Annual Table Lodge sponsored by Nauset Light Lodge on March 15th in Chatham. The food was excellent, and the fellowship the same on this special night, and all that can be said of this great night is "and a good time was had by all!"
Hope that all of you can fill the sidelines this month and I certainly hope to be right there with you. In the meantime, here are some words of wisdom to think about and take to heart ...
"The way to get started on any worthwhile project is to quit talking and begin doing"
Fraternally

2100th Plan—Toward Our 2100th Regular Communication
Rumor has it that we may have as many as a dozen applications for next year! Please get the paper work in. We would like to read them into Lodge by May and voted them by June so we can start right off in Sept! Remember quality first! RW Jim suggested that we shoot for 21 in one year instead of 21 new members in 3 years!
Go ahead , raise that bar—we’re up to it!
