Your site has answered a question in my genealogy of "Smith's" of provincetown. My 6th great grandfather was Eldredge Smith, and the rumor that he had been imprisoned at Dartmoor in England, has long been a mystery. Finally in your" A Seafaring Heritage" article pg.5,there it was about the seamen who refused to work for the British were sent to Dartmoor prison. Then to find out that he had been a Mason!!! I was overjoyed to find these mentions of my 6th greatgrandfather. Thank you, now that hole in my Smith genealogy has been filled.

While internet "surfing" trying to trace some of my family's geneology, I came across your website with it's fascinating "First hundred years" and "Second hundred years" with abreviated minutes from meetings throughout the 1800's I discovered my great-great grandfather had been a member - Capt. William Matheson, as had my great grandfather, Oren O. Paine. Also ancestors, Roderick Matheson and Capt Duncan ALexander Matheson. Great fun to also read about those who married into the Matheson family - Giffords, MacKays, etc. Wonderful resource by your historian!

I recently purchased an imprint of a similar Masonic certificate as you have on line...the 1795 certificate engraved by Paul Revere. The one I have was obviously printed at a later date and was given as a gift to someone in 1951. It was archively mounted at that time so it was obviously an important impression. Would you be so kind to help me with a question? Is the original copperplate still being used to produce this beautiful certificate. It certainly looks very authentic. The size of the impression is approximately 13 3/4" X 10 1/4". I'll attach some images of the Revere engraving. It's in mint condition. Thank you for your time and consideration. Terry Jackson
